Best Shopify apps for GEO in 2026: get your store cited by AI

The Shopify apps that help with GEO, sorted by job: what Shopify already does, AI visibility tracking, structured data, llms.txt and product content. Prices and ratings from the Shopify App Store on October 21, 2026.

Created on 8 min read

To get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews, a Shopify store needs three things: product pages machines can read, accurate structured data, and a way to measure what AI engines actually say about its products. No single app does all three perfectly. If you are looking for the best Shopify SEO app for AI search, the answer depends on the job. This guide sorts the Shopify apps that help with GEO (generative engine optimization) by job, with prices and ratings taken from the Shopify App Store on October 21, 2026, so you install the right one instead of five that overlap.

Key takeaway: start with what Shopify already does without an app, then add one structured data app and one AI visibility app. The llms.txt file (a summary of your site written for AI models) comes last: it is easy to generate, but on Shopify you need to check that it is served at the root of your domain, and its effect on citations has not been demonstrated so far.

Full disclosure before we start: Citeme, one of the apps below, is our product. We have not tested the other apps on this list. Prices, ratings and features come from their official Shopify App Store listings, and the recommendations draw on what we measure in AI answers for the brands we monitor.

What Shopify already does without an app

Before installing anything, check what is included. On March 24, 2026, Shopify announced Agentic Storefronts: access to ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, AI Mode in Google Search and the Gemini app, managed from the Shopify admin. According to Shopify, products are discoverable in ChatGPT by default through Shopify Catalog, with no extra app or integration, and the merchant remains the merchant of record.

Shopify also says AI surfaces favor structured data with accurate, real-time attributes. That is the foundation for everything else: if your product pages have vague titles, poorly filled variants or a price that does not match the page, no GEO app will make up for it.

What Shopify does not do for you: tell you whether AI engines recommend you, against which competitors, and why they cite someone else. That is where apps come in.

Lumosllms.txt, llms-full.txt and agents.md$9.99 to $24.99/month5.0 (4)

One pattern stands out: the apps with hundreds of reviews are SEO and structured data apps that have been around for years. Dedicated GEO apps almost all date from 2026 and have between zero and about thirty reviews. The market is young, and a 5.0 on four reviews, like Lumos has, does not tell you much.

Measure your visibility in AI answers

This is the most important job and the one Shopify covers least. A tracking app asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini the questions your customers ask ("best mineral sunscreen", "alternative to brand X") and records who gets cited.

Why it matters: across roughly 2,000 queries run against the engines for the brands we monitor, those brands are cited in 13% of answers, with clear gaps between engines, from 17% on Claude to 11% on Perplexity. A store can be recommended by one engine and missing from another: a ChatGPT-only measurement tells you nothing about Perplexity.

What separates the apps in this group:

  • How many engines they track. BrandEcho tracks only ChatGPT on its first paid plan, Cited up to 5 models on its Pro plan, FoundGPT 5 engines.
  • How many questions they track. Free plans cover 2 to 12 questions: enough to see whether you exist, not enough to manage a catalog.
  • What happens after the measurement. Some stop at the diagnosis, others suggest fixes (FoundGPT, Cited), and some write and publish the content.

The Citeme app sits in that last group: it scores each product page against the criteria the engines use, drafts the missing structured data, product descriptions and SEO copy, then publishes them after your review or automatically. It also tracks the questions that cite you, the competitors cited alongside you, AI bot visits and the orders that came from an AI answer. Its limits, as of today: the interface is in English, and the app has no reviews yet on the Shopify App Store. The full platform, with ten engines including Google AI Overviews, is described on our e-commerce GEO page.

Structured data, the technical foundation

Structured data (JSON-LD) tells engines, without ambiguity, what a product is: its name, price, availability, brand and reviews. Shopify themes often generate part of it. The apps in this group are the most reviewed of the lot, and mostly long-established:

  • Webrex: the most reviewed of the dedicated structured data apps (845), with a free plan that covers product schema without limits. Review and FAQ schema require a paid plan.
  • Schema Plus: around since 2018, no free plan, with a product cap by plan (5, 250 or unlimited).
  • JSON-LD for SEO: a single $399-a-year plan, in English, for stores that want a proven tool without a monthly subscription.

Check one thing before installing any of them: consistency. Two sources of JSON-LD on the same page (the theme and the app) produce duplicate and sometimes conflicting data. Test the result with our AI schema checker after installation.

The llms.txt file: useful, but not a priority

An llms.txt file summarizes your site for language models. Several apps generate it (LLMs.txt Generator by Gokyo.ai, Lumos, BrandEcho on its free plan). Two caveats:

  • It has to be served at the root of your domain. According to reviews of LLMs.txt Generator, the file is served from an app subfolder there, which needs a redirect for it to be found where it is expected.
  • Its effect on citations has not been demonstrated so far. It helps models read your site, with no evidence yet that it earns more citations.

To do it without an app, our llms.txt generator builds the file from your site, and the page explains how to publish it on Shopify.

Product content

AI engines cite product pages that answer precise questions: who the product is for, what sets it apart, what it does not do. General SEO apps such as Smart SEO generate descriptions and tags in bulk. That saves time, on one condition: review the output. A generic description rewritten by AI reads like your competitors', and an engine has no reason to cite it over theirs.

Which combination for your store

  • You are starting out: make sure your products are exposed through Shopify Catalog, install a structured data app with a free plan, and try a free tracking plan to see whether AI engines already cite you.
  • You have an established catalog: a full structured data app, plus a tracking app that covers several engines and your competitors, ideally one that can fix the product pages that lose.
  • You sell in several countries: check the supported languages. FoundGPT, Webrex and Smart SEO support several languages; several recent GEO apps are English only.

To measure what AI engines say about your store, you can install Citeme from the Shopify App Store. For the bigger picture, our guide to the best GEO tools covers platforms beyond Shopify.

FAQ

There is no single one, because GEO covers three jobs: accurate structured data, precise product content, and measuring what AI engines answer. Structured data apps such as Webrex or Schema Plus are the most proven. For measurement, dedicated apps (Citeme, Kwik GEO, FoundGPT, Cited) are recent: choose based on how many engines they track and what the app does after the measurement.

Do I need an app to show up in ChatGPT with Shopify?

Not to be discoverable. According to Shopify, since March 24, 2026, products from Shopify stores are discoverable by default in ChatGPT through Shopify Catalog, without an app. Being discoverable is not the same as being recommended, though: a tracking app tells you whether ChatGPT actually cites you against your competitors.

Is llms.txt useful on Shopify?

It can help models understand your site, but its effect on citations has not been demonstrated so far. On Shopify, you also need to check that it is served at the root of your domain. It is a secondary task, after structured data and product pages.

How much does a GEO app cost on Shopify?

Based on the Shopify App Store listings checked on October 21, 2026, most offer a limited free plan, then plans from $19 to $299 a month for AI visibility tracking, and up to $749 a month for Kwik GEO's most complete plan. Structured data apps cost $0 to $35 a month, or $399 a year for JSON-LD for SEO.

Does Citeme work on Shopify?

Yes. The Citeme app has been available on the Shopify App Store since October 19, 2026. It scores each product page against the criteria AI engines use, drafts the missing structured data and content, publishes it after your review or automatically, and tracks citations, competitors and orders coming from AI answers.
