We publish an AI citation tracking tool. Which is to say we spend our days testing SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) platforms, and the marketing around "revolutionary AI agents" does not impress us much any more. When ChatSEO started appearing everywhere in our LinkedIn feed, we did what we always do: we plugged it into our own site, citeme.io, and used it for a full month. Not a 10-minute demo, a real test in real conditions, with our Search Console, our data, our actual questions.
Quick verdict for the impatient: ChatSEO is a very good tool, particularly for getting started in SEO. It is not the revolution some affiliate articles describe, but it is a serious, well-designed product that saves real time. We give it 4 out of 5, and the breakdown of that score is further down. Here is our full review, with no promo code hidden in the text.
What exactly is ChatSEO?
An SEO agent plugged into your Search Console
ChatSEO is a French conversational SEO agent, launched on 29 September 2025 by Paul Vengeons (an SEO consultant well known in the French-speaking ecosystem), Nicholas Dulait and Léo Leducq. The principle fits in one sentence: you connect your Google Search Console, and you ask your questions in plain language, as you would on ChatGPT.
What ChatSEO changes compared with ChatGPT
The difference with ChatGPT is the data. ChatGPT gives you generic SEO advice based on its training. ChatSEO reads your real positions, your clicks, your impressions, your click-through rate, and cross-references all of it with market data through DataForSEO. When ChatSEO tells you a page sits in position 8 on a query, that is your real position, not an estimate.

The dashboard opens on priorities, not on curves: it is ChatSEO's most visible design decision.
ChatSEO's traction in numbers
The tool now claims more than 10,000 users and 130,000 analyses run, with customers including Zenchef, Captain Contrat, Alinea, HelloWork and Fitness Park. For a product that is not even a year old, the traction is real.
In short: ChatSEO is a French conversational SEO agent launched in September 2025, natively connected to Google Search Console and to DataForSEO market data. It has more than 10,000 users and turns a site's raw data into prioritised recommendations written in plain language.
How we tested ChatSEO on citeme.io
Our test protocol
Our protocol was simple. We connected citeme.io's Search Console to ChatSEO (it takes 5 minutes, a standard OAuth connection, nothing to install), then used the tool the way a founder running their own SEO would: concrete, regular questions, with no attempt to trip ChatSEO up.

The OAuth connection is the only technical prerequisite in the whole product. No script to place on the site.
The questions we asked ChatSEO
Over the month, we asked it:
- To identify our quick wins, those pages ranking between 5th and 15th that can climb with reasonable effort
- To analyse why some of our English resource pages generate impressions without turning into clicks
- To run a technical audit of the site and prioritise the fixes
- To compare our semantic coverage with that of direct competitors in the AI visibility tools market
- To produce article briefs on queries we were not yet working
Interesting context for us: our Search Console is surfacing more and more AI fan-out queries, those synthetic searches generated by AI engines when they break a question down. It is a GEO signal we follow closely at Citeme. We wanted to see whether ChatSEO could interpret that kind of pattern in the data. Answer further down.
What ChatSEO does really well
Prioritisation, ChatSEO's real strength
This is where ChatSEO won us over. Most SEO platforms drown you in data: dashboards, exports, curves. ChatSEO does the opposite. You ask "what is my priority this week", and it answers with a short, ordered list, justified by your own numbers.
The 80/20 logic on quick wins
Its 80/20 logic on quick wins is well executed. On citeme.io, ChatSEO spotted within seconds a set of resource pages stalling on page 2 with a decent impression volume, and proposed a precise action for each: rework the title, strengthen internal linking from our strong pages, enrich a section. Nothing revolutionary for an experienced SEO, but the analysis that would have taken us a solid hour in Search Console comes out in one answer.

Every action is attached to the data that justifies it. That is what separates a prioritisation from a list of tips.
The conversational interface, without the gimmick
We were sceptical about the chat format. Plenty of tools bolt a conversational interface onto a product that did not need one. At ChatSEO it earns its place: the question "why has my traffic dropped on this page for 3 weeks" has no equivalent button in a classic dashboard. ChatSEO cross-references the periods, identifies the queries that slipped, and puts forward a hypothesis. That is the kind of investigation that normally means juggling several Search Console views.
Context memory
Context memory works well: ChatSEO remembers your sector, your objectives, your previous exchanges on the project. After two weeks we were no longer re-explaining anything.
ChatSEO's 12 specialised agents
ChatSEO does not rest on a single general model but on 12 agents, each trained on a specific domain. You ask your question, the right agent activates automatically.
| Agent | What it does | Our usage on Citeme |
|---|---|---|
| Performance analysis | Reading GSC data, spotting quick wins and drops | Intensive, it is the core of the tool |
| SEO strategy | Overall action plans and priority trade-offs | Regular |
| Keyword research | Volumes, difficulty, semantic grouping via DataForSEO | Regular |
| Competitive analysis | Competitors' keywords, content and backlinks | Occasional |
| Indexing and technical audit | Crawl errors, tags, prioritised indexing problems | One full audit at the start of the test |
| GEO | Recommendations for getting cited by AI engines | Tested out of professional curiosity, inevitably |
ChatSEO's other agents cover on-page optimisation, internal linking, backlinks, structured data, local SEO and NinjaLinking (free backlink opportunities, not to be confused with parasite SEO). We did not use everything with the same intensity, but the whole is coherent: one subscription covers what would normally take three or four tools.
MCP and API access, a real differentiator
A detail that matters for technical profiles: from the Pro plan onwards, ChatSEO exposes an official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server and an API. You can therefore run your audits and pull your data straight from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and wire ChatSEO into your own workflows. At this price point that is rare, and it is exactly the direction the market is taking.
In short: ChatSEO's strengths are automatic prioritisation of actions from real Search Console data, a conversational interface with context memory, 12 specialised SEO agents (including a GEO agent) and MCP and API access from the Pro plan at 49 euros a month.
ChatSEO pricing
The price grid
The pricing grid runs on credits: 1 credit equals 1 message sent. Free credits let you test ChatSEO before paying, with no card required.
| Plan | Monthly price | Annual price | Credits per month | Sites connected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 29 € | 23 €/month | 100 | 1 |
| Pro | 49 € | 39 €/month | 200 | 3 |
| Ranker | 79 € | 63 €/month | 400 | 10 |
What each plan adds
The Pro plan adds Google Analytics, team work (3 members) and API and MCP access. The Ranker plan goes up to 10 sites and 5 members, with priority support and dedicated onboarding. For reference, that is roughly a quarter of the price of a Semrush or Ahrefs subscription. ChatSEO's pricing position is aggressive, and deliberately so.
The limits of ChatSEO we ran into
Let us be honest, because this is what most published reviews of this tool leave out (many are affiliate pieces, with the promo code duly placed mid-article).
Credits go fast when you dig
An in-depth analysis session, with follow-up questions and requests for rephrasing, easily eats 15 to 20 credits. On a Starter plan with 100 credits, serious daily use hits the ceiling before the end of the month. For a founder doing a weekly SEO review, it is plenty. For a consultant who lives in the tool, aim for Pro or Ranker.
ChatSEO does not replace a full suite for an expert
ChatSEO's backlink database does not have Ahrefs' depth, and very broad topical exploration remains Semrush territory. ChatSEO knows this: it positions itself as the replacement for your stack on 80 % of use cases, not for the sharpest 20 %.
Still a young product
Some CMS integrations are still marked "coming soon" (Webflow in particular, which concerns us directly as daily Webflow users). The team ships fast, but you have to accept using a product under construction.
GEO: ChatSEO advises but does not measure
On our GEO question, the dedicated agent gives sound recommendations, and including a "get cited by AI" agent from the Starter plan shows the team has understood where the market is going. But it is an advice layer, not a measurement tool. ChatSEO does not track your citations in ChatGPT, Perplexity or AI Overviews over time, which is simply not its job. It is ours, and the two approaches complement each other very well: ChatSEO to run the SEO foundation, a GEO audit to measure and improve your visibility in AI answers.
In short: ChatSEO's limits are a credit system that constrains intensive use, a backlink database shallower than Ahrefs', CMS integrations still rolling out, and a GEO layer that advises but does not measure AI citations over time.
Who is ChatSEO for?
After a month of use, our reading is clear.
SEO beginners, the best use case
ChatSEO is excellent for getting started. If you are a founder, a freelancer or a marketing lead without a technical background, it is probably the best entry point on the French-speaking market today. You do not need to understand what well-oiled organic search looks like before you begin: you ask your questions, ChatSEO educates you while it answers. The learning curve of a Semrush, by contrast, discourages half of beginners before their first result.
Intermediate profiles running SEO solo
ChatSEO is also very relevant for those who want to stop losing two hours a week in Search Console. The value is there: less analysis, more execution.
SEO experts in agencies
For agency experts, ChatSEO is a fast complement (prospect pre-audits, hypothesis validation, a second opinion on a strategy) rather than a main tool. And that is fine.
Are ChatSEO's recommendations reliable?
A word on the awkward question. Over our month of testing, we did not record a single absurd piece of advice. ChatSEO's recommendations are classic, solid, anchored in the data. We sometimes found the content briefs a little conventional compared with what we produce in house, but never wrong. For an AI tool, that is far from guaranteed in advance, as we know from our Mammouth AI test.
Alternatives to ChatSEO
No tool covers everything, and ChatSEO does not pretend otherwise. Here are the four cases where you should look elsewhere, and where to.
| Your need | The alternative | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Depth of SEO data | Ahrefs, Semrush | Backlink database and position history without equal, at several times the price |
| Measuring your citations in AI | A GEO platform | ChatSEO advises on the subject but does not track your citations over time. That is a separate job |
| Zero budget | Search Console alone | The raw data is free. What you pay for is the prioritisation |
| Producing content at volume | A dedicated editorial tool | ChatSEO recommends what to write, without being a production studio |
The second case is the most common, and it is ours: ChatSEO runs the classic SEO foundation very well from your Search Console data, but visibility inside ChatGPT or Perplexity answers is measured with different instruments. We compared the market's tools in our GEO tool selection, and detailed what separates the two disciplines in our AI SEO guide. The two do not replace each other. They stack.
Our verdict on ChatSEO after 1 month: 4/5
Our detailed scoring
Here is how we arrive at that score, criterion by criterion, from the single month of testing described above.
| Criterion | Score | What justifies it |
|---|---|---|
| Getting started | 5/5 | OAuth connection in 5 minutes, no installation, no technical vocabulary required |
| Action prioritisation | 4.5/5 | The real strength: quick wins justified by our own numbers, in one answer |
| Value for money | 4.5/5 | About a quarter of the price of a full suite, MCP and API from 49 € a month |
| Depth of data | 3/5 | Backlink database shallower than Ahrefs, topical exploration narrower than Semrush |
| GEO coverage | 2.5/5 | An agent that advises soundly, but no tracking of AI citations over time |
| Overall score | 4/5 | An excellent first SEO tool, to be completed as soon as the stake becomes visibility inside AI |
What we take away from ChatSEO
ChatSEO deserves its reputation. It is a genuinely solid tool, built by people who actually do SEO, sold at an honest price, with serious product execution. The bet on a conversational interface connected to real data pays off: you save time, the priorities are clear, and the learning curve is close to zero.
It will not cover all your needs if you are an agency with sharp requirements in link building or in tracking hundreds of keywords. And if your stake is visibility inside AI-generated answers rather than inside Google's blue links, you will need to complete ChatSEO with a dedicated solution: we compared the best GEO tools on the market if the subject interests you.
But for getting started in SEO or structuring a solo practice, it is hard to find better in 2026 at this price. Try the free version of ChatSEO, connect your Search Console, ask three questions. In ten minutes you will know whether the tool suits you. And if you want to work on the other half of your visibility, the half that plays out in ChatGPT and Perplexity, we have written a full guide on how to win visibility in AI search.
In short: we score ChatSEO 4 out of 5 after a month of testing on our own site. Getting started 5/5, prioritisation 4.5/5, value for money 4.5/5, depth of data 3/5, GEO coverage 2.5/5. It is the best SEO entry point on the French-speaking market for a beginner or a solo operator, to be completed with a dedicated measurement tool as soon as the goal becomes visibility inside AI answers.
Is ChatSEO suitable for SEO beginners?
Yes, it is its best use case. The conversational interface requires no prior expertise: you connect your Google Search Console through a standard OAuth authentication, which takes five minutes and requires no installation, then you ask your questions in plain language as you would on ChatGPT. The tool answers with concrete, prioritised actions rather than with dashboards to decipher. Getting started takes under ten minutes, with no training and no technical vocabulary to master beforehand. That is precisely what sets it apart from classic SEO suites, whose learning curve discourages most founders running their own search work. From the first session a beginner gets a list of priorities justified by their own numbers, which is worth more than an exhaustive audit they would not know how to use.
How much does ChatSEO cost?
ChatSEO offers three monthly plans. Starter at 29 euros covers one site with 100 credits. Pro at 49 euros moves to 200 credits, three sites, and opens API access along with the MCP server. Ranker at 79 euros goes up to 400 credits and ten sites. An annual subscription cuts those amounts by around 20 per cent. Free credits let you test the tool without a card, which is welcome for checking that the quotas match your working rhythm before committing. A credit is consumed on each analysis, so the right plan depends less on the number of sites than on how often you use it. For scale, these prices represent roughly a quarter of what a full SEO suite such as Semrush or Ahrefs costs.
What is the difference between ChatSEO and ChatGPT for SEO?
ChatGPT gives generic advice, because it has access to none of your data: it answers from its training, without knowing where you rank or what earns you clicks. ChatSEO connects to your Google Search Console and cross-references that information with market data through DataForSEO. When it tells you a page occupies position 8 on a query, that is your real position, not an estimate. Its recommendations therefore rest on your actual impressions, clicks and click-through rate. It is the difference between a theoretical opinion valid for any site and a diagnosis established on yours. In practice, what changes most is the prioritisation: the tool identifies the pages stalling on page two with a decent impression volume, the ones where effort pays off fastest.
Does ChatSEO replace Semrush or Ahrefs?
For most founders and small companies, yes. ChatSEO covers the bulk of everyday work, namely the technical audit, keyword research, action prioritisation and brief production, for around a quarter of the price of a full suite. If your SEO amounts to a few hours a month, the difference in coverage will not show and the difference in the bill will. For experts, the answer is no. An exhaustive backlink database, very broad competitive analyses or large-scale position tracking remain Semrush and Ahrefs territory, and ChatSEO does not try to compete there. In that case it complements those suites rather than replacing them: it acts as a reading and arbitration layer on top of data you already collect elsewhere.
Does ChatSEO handle GEO and AI citations?
Partly, and the nuance matters. ChatSEO includes a GEO agent that produces recommendations for improving your chances of being cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity or AI Overviews: passage structuring, clarity of definitions, technical signals. That advice is useful and aligned with what generative engines actually do. The tool does not, however, measure your citations over time. It tells you what to improve, not where you stand or whether you are making progress. Yet the metric that counts in GEO is not a position but the share of relevant questions where your brand is actually named, and it varies from one engine to another and from one week to the next. Tracking that change requires a dedicated monitoring tool such as Citeme, which queries several engines repeatedly and keeps the history.
Where can you find a ChatSEO promo code?
Several codes circulate on the French-speaking web. We offer none and we take no commission on ChatSEO, and that is precisely the condition for the 4 out of 5 score in this article to mean anything. Our advice lies elsewhere: the free trial is enough to decide. A few days of use on your own Search Console data will teach you more than a ten per cent discount, because the deciding question is the rate at which credits are consumed when you dig into a subject in depth, and no promotional code changes that parameter. So look at the plan matching your real volume of questions rather than at the first-month rebate.
