AI Overviews Tracker
One surface, tracked properly: the AI block Google places above the classic results. Trigger rate, citation rate, citation rank position and competitor share of voice, on your own queries.
The audit runs inside the Citeme app, so an account is required to launch it.
What is an AI Overviews tracker?
An AI Overviews tracker follows one thing and one thing only: the generated answer block Google shows above the ten blue links. For every query you track, it records whether the block appears, which sources it names, in what order, and which brand recurs most often.
It is the AI surface the largest number of people actually see, because it requires installing no app and opening no assistant: it is already there, above the results. It is also the only one of the ten surfaces Citeme covers that is not driven by an API, and that changes how it has to be measured.
The four metrics that count
One definition per metric, and the reason it deserves a line in your reporting.
Trigger rate
The share of your tracked queries for which Google returns an AI Overview at all.
A query with no AI Overview is a query where classic ranking still decides everything, so it belongs in a different workstream.
Citation rate
The share of those AI Overviews that cite your domain as a source.
This is the number that says whether the surface is working for you, independently of how often it appears.
Citation rank position
Where your link sits in the ordered list of sources an AI Overview names.
The first source carries most of the clicks that remain, so moving from fifth to second matters more than adding a sixth citation elsewhere.
Competitor share of voice
The percentage of all citations in your tracked AI Overviews that goes to each brand, including yours.
It converts a set of individual results into a single competitive picture, and it is the only one of the four that moves when a rival publishes.
How to track your AI Overviews
- 1
Paste your URL
Citeme crawls your site and writes the commercial queries your buyers type, in the region you sell to.
- 2
The SERP is captured
Google AI Overviews has no public API, so Citeme captures it from the SERP, alongside the nine engines queried through their APIs.
- 3
Read the four metrics
Trigger rate, citation rate, citation rank position and competitor share of voice, with the pages behind each result.
Google is one surface out of ten
This page covers AI Overviews only. Your buyers also question ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok 4.3, Siri AI, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral, and the same site can be strong on one and absent from another.
See the AI visibility checker →The block is the answer. The brands cited are the shortlist.
Citeme tracks your citations inside AI Overviews and across the nine other engines, then fixes the pages behind a weak result.
Frequently asked questions
An AI Overviews tracker records, query by query, whether Google shows an AI Overview and which sources it names inside it. It is a narrower instrument than a general AI visibility tool: it looks at one surface, the block Google places above the classic results, and it measures four things about it. That narrowness is the point. AI Overviews behaves differently from a chat assistant. It is tied to a specific query rather than a conversation, it appears inconsistently, and its source list is ordered. None of those properties survive being averaged into a single cross-engine score.
